It was another incredible show put on by the guys in Godsmack at the Hard Rock in Hollywood FL, last week. Even though this is the fifth time seeing the guys, they never disappoint. I had a great view of the entire show from our seats, which were not sat in the entire night because these guys are that awesome live. Even during "Serenity" there is NO reason to sit on your ass.
As the lights come down there is video footage of Sully as he talks about his new CD "Avalon" (which is in stores and should be picked up by everyone). This video lasted about five minutes and gave great insight to his CD and the players on it. The video fades out and the intro music begins...AC/DC's "For Those About To Rock." Of all the bands I have seen over the years I can't think of one band who deserves to use this intro more than Godsmack.
"Cryin' Like a Bitch" kicks off the show and the asskicking has begun. The stage set up is stripped down for this tour, with three split video screens in the back and the amps having the illusion of floating in the air.
Since this is the tour supporting the new disc "The Oracle" Godsmack played a number of new songs from the CD. I was surprised when the band busted out "The Oracle" as I wasn't expecting the band to play the instrumental even though it's the title track. The band just kept rolling into songs until a few songs in when Sully tells the crowd he is glad to be back in Florida to kick off the tour.
The crowd was singing to the songs and at one point Sully asked the crowd "How many people here have never seen Godsmack before?" I was surprised to see a good percentage of the crowd had not seen them before. They quickly learned how great the band is live.
I will admit after seeing them the amount of times I have I was not looking forward to the "Batalla de los Tambores," but this time I loved it. They incorporated a medley of songs including AC/DC, Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" where the crowd sang along, Jethro Tull and Zeppelin's "Moby Dick".
Godsmack ended the evening with "Whatever", one of my favorite tracks. As always Sully got the crowd fired up and ready to mosh. He worked the crowd though the song and brought it home with a kick ass ending to another killer show.
The G-Smack was put down on that Tuesday night. Sully and the guys put on an incredible live performance, and one that should not be missed. Sully is up there to me as one of the great frontmen in Rock n Roll these days, even playing the guitar. Just a side note..I am pretty sure I am enjoying "The Oracle" more now than I did when I first purchased it after seeing this concert. DON'T MISS IT!
