Joe Perry Thinks the End Might Be Near for Aerosmith

Joe Perry

Is the end near for Aerosmith? It could be, according to Joe Perry. Perry, who's currently on the road with the band, touched upon the fact that Steven Tyler will be among the judges for the upcoming season of Fox's American Idol, and hinted that the band's days might be numbered.

Perry told Cincinnati.com that Tyler's Idol gig is a done deal, "He told me just a couple of days ago he signed his papers to join the show. As far as he knew, everything (is) set to go. . . I think everybody's a little worn out. The tour is winding up, and we don't know when will work again as a band. That part of it is up in the air, and it's starting to hit home."

Last summer, when the trouble with the band began in earnest after Tyler's fall from stage forced Aerosmith to cancel their tour, Perry was optimistic that in the proper circumstances, the band could carry on. "I think that the band has to look at what it takes to do this gracefully. There's no reason why the band can't keep playing until we can't walk. There's just no reason. You just have to know that you can't do certain things anymore. You know, you can't do somersaults on stage, you can't do, you know, swing from ropes. But there are other things you can do that are just as entertaining -- like sing, play."
