I talked with Ed King, a Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist from 1972 through 1975...and he told me a story that blew me away. Skynyrd joined on with The Who in 1973 for their Quadrophenia tour and they were watching as The Who played a few songs and just about a third of the way in..."The Loon" passed out cold. Keith Moon has done it again, so wasted he passed out right there on stage.
"Does anybody know how to play the drums??" Pete Townshend asks the crowd with his arms raised halfway up, shrugging, not knowing what to do.
Ed said he watched stage side as some 17 year old kid jumped on stage and he ripped through Baba O'Riley, perfectly.
"He just nailed that thing." Ed said.
"Why did KFC choose "Sweet Home Alabama" for their KFC campaign?" I asked...
"I don't know, but it sure as hell paid for the fence around my ranch."
